How to clear CloudFlare cache and resolve caching issues

Cloudflare improves your website’s performance by storing cached copies of static content (such as images, CSS, and JavaScript) on its global network. This allows visitors to load your website faster.

These copies can become outdated when you make changes to your website, making it necessary to clear and preload the cache in Cloudflare so the most up-to-date version of your site is displayed.

Clearing the cache does not affect your original website files, it only removes temporarily stored copies.

How to purge Cloudflare's cache

Follow the steps below to clear the cache for your domain:

  1. Log in to your Cloudflare account.

  2. Select the domain you’d like to manage.

  3. Navigate to the Caching section.

  4. Open the Configuration tab.

  5. Choose one of the available cache purge options (described in the section below).

Cache purge options

Cloudflare provides two ways to clear cached content.

Custom purge

Use this option if you only need to update assets with certain URLs, hostname, tags or prefixes.

The selected files will be refreshed the next time they are requested.

Purge Everything

Use this option if you want to remove all cached content for the domain:

Once completed, Cloudflare will retrieve all content directly from your server until the cache is rebuilt.

Notes

  • After clearing the cache, your website may temporarily load slower while a new cache is generated.

  • Purging the entire cache can increase the load on your server, especially for high-traffic websites.

  • If you only updated specific content, we recommend purging individual files, instead of the entire cache.
